How this book came to be . . .
In 1998 I was standing at a Bus stop, waiting for a taxi. It was late at night and there was only one person there aside from myself. She was a woman attending college nearby. We struck up a conversation about her studies and what she really wanted to do. She was studying acting but really wanted to be a successful journalist. I was surprised that she would pursue a much more challenging career track when the job of journalist appeared easier to attain. I had always enjoyed my work and never thought that someone would not take the opportunity to attain their dream career.
I started to speak with her about the price she would pay for sacrificing her desire of being a journalist. I noticed that quickly into our conversation a light went on inside of her. She started speaking about becoming a journalist as if it would happen. She became increasingly animated as she shared how she would interview people and tell news stories.
Throughout the week I was inspired by our shared insight - mine to help people discover their Right Livelihood and hers’ to become a journalist. The following weekend I had the same experience chatting with three other strangers at a friend’s party. It seemed very easy for me to speak “into” someone’s dream and, together with them, bring it forward into their awareness so that it became a real possibility.
Since then I have used my life to support others in having the jobs they love and careers that are satisfying.
